New Galley Guidelines for 2008

During a recent visit from the Safety and Hygiene Officer from Havant Borough Council’s Environmental Health Team, who called to inspect the Galley, it was pointed out that there had been a change in the Law in 2006 and we we needed to look at the new legal requirements for the Food Hygiene (England) Regulations.

Following a further meeting, we have agreed a way forward which will enable the club to miantain its self-help ethos and to continue to run the Social and Sailing events as we always have.

New rules require us to be more diligent with our record-keeping in respect of such items as Fridge and Freezer temperatures, cleaning schedules and re-heating practices. We are also required to hold all receipts for food from source, to enable the Club always to be able to identify the source of the food to the Environmental Health department if required.

Galley volunteers must adhere to the food safety aspects of the Galley Guidelines and sign to acknowledge that they will do so. They must also tick that they have completed the appropriate routine at the start and end of their duty. The diary section is to be updated to record the type of Galley opening and any problems encountered.

The food safety guidelines are highlighted in Red and Bold in the Galley Guidelines folder.
