THE LANGSTONE JUNIOR SECTION

JUNIOR NEWS

General Information

The Junior Section (age range 7 to 18) organise some social events each year, some in partnership with Junior sections at other nearby clubs.

During the summer there are a number of "Fun on the Water" sessions, where Juniors can practise their sailing and racing skills and take part in activities ashore.

The Junior section have six boats that can be used for racing and other Junior events: three Toppers, two Optimists and an RS Feva. There is an annual Junior Regatta where Juniors have a chance to show their skills against young people from other clubs.

In recent years, the Langstone Junior section have given some of their time to local and national charities such as the Langstone Raft Race, raising money for the childrens' ward at our local hospital, Queen Alexandra's. They have also raised money for Great Ormond Street Hospital and the Olympic appeals with sponsored sails.

The Club believes in encouraging junior members to gain formal sailing qualifications with the RYA, and have run beginners/improvers courses over the last few years. These courses are only open to registered junior club members, whose parents/guardians are themselves members. The courses are run by fully qualified instructors, whose fees are paid by the course participants.

Health and Safety note

Club boats should only be used by juniors who are competent to use them or are supervised by a parent or guardian. If you would like to use the Junior Boats and have not used them before, please contact the Sailing Secretary.
