FED WEEK - THURSDAY 18th AUGUST

In between 20 and 27 knots of wind Langstone have an excellent day at Fed Week, of the 5 Langstone boats our worst position was a third. Well done to Toby Hamer 1st in the Laser Radials, Kent Mason (Blaze) 1st and Mike Mike Ford/Jeannette Luczkowski (Laser 2000) 2nd in the medium handicap, Peter Ellis/Adam McMenemy (B14) 3rd in the fast asymmetric and Jane Noble/Mark Wilson (Buzz) 3rd in the medium asymmetric.

FED WEEK - FRIDAY 19th AUGUST

Carrying on from our success on Thursday Langstone finished the week with Toby Hamer getting a 2nd in the Laser Radials and Mike Ford/Jeannette Luczkowski (Laser 2000) 1st and Kent Mason (Blaze) 2nd in the medium handicap. This resulted in overall results for the week of Kent Mason winning the Medium handicap, Toby Hamer coming 2nd in the Laser Radials, Mike Ford/Jeannette Luczkowski 4th in the medium handicap, Peter Ellis/Adam McMenemy 5th in the fast asymmetric and Jane Noble/Mark Wilson 5th in the medium asymmetric. With such good results we came 3rd equal in the team prize but unfortunately just losing out on count-back. Congratulations to all who took part and look forward to us doing even better next year.

Regatta Weekend June 18/19th 2011

On Friday night the forecast for Saturday was severe with winds of force 8 and so the the racing was cancelled for the following day. Fortunately on Saturday with racing cancelled we had the curry in the evening to cheer ourselves up, thanks to Jeannette and friends for the excellent curry and fun evening. On Sunday we woke up to less wind than Saturday but only just with a steady force 6 blowing, the junior Regatta was cancelled and with the forecast for the wind dropping the Prentice Plate/Hollingshead Throphy was on. The race got underway on time, unfortunately this also coincided with rise in the wind strength, all the competitors coped well with most of the tacking at the gibe mark on the first lap. In the fast fleet Richard Keevil in the Contender pulled out a lead which he never lost whilst in the medium Fleet it was nip and tuck between Mike Ford/Jeannette Luczowski in a Laser 2000 and Kent Mason in a Blaze. On the subsequent laps the wind strength died down a fraction to a steady force 6 so all the asymmetric boats where now flying their spinnakers. Well done to to all those who took part on a difficult day and especially to our visitors from Locks/Tudor and Emsworth who not only completed the race but also sailing to and from the event.

Racing Notes

New racers are always welcome. For information please see the club notice board or contact the Sailing Secretary.

The Race Officer can opt to combine handicap starts. Average lap calculations may be used for Langstone Harbour courses but are not appropriate for Chichester Harbour events.

All times noted in the calendar for club racing are WARNING SIGNAL times for the first class to start and not start times. For open events/interclub events see event publicity for details.

For race series half the number of races sailed plus one to count. This applies to all series except Mini-Series that is decided on day of event.

Where there is only 1 boat per class points will be awarded at the discretion of the Sailing Committee. No multi-hulls (except for Sailability trimarans) may race in Chichester Harbour.

The Sailing Committee reserves the right to award club handicap numbers to craft not listed in YR2 - RYA Portsmouth Yardstick Scheme, and to amend any values stated therein at their discretion.

The venue and courses may be changed at the discretion of the Race Officer after due notification. If after considering the conditions the Race Officer cancels the race their decision in final.

Those rostered for race duties should get to the club at least I hour before the start time if the race is in Chichester (C) or 1½ hours if the race is in Langstone (L).

If the full patrol boat team(s) is not present the race shall not go ahead unless suitable experienced volunteers are found.

There may be both club familiarisation and RYA certificated training sessions during the year, lookout for details at the club. You may arrange to assist a patrol boat driver or race officer before your duty to familiarise yourself with the duty.

The event welcomes dinghy sailors from all across the south coast to compete in the series of exciting races held within the harbour.

Evening social events are held at each club, offering a mixture of entertainment to sailors and their families after the sun has set on the racing activities.

Federation Week

This Regatta is organised by the Chichester Harbour Federation, of which Langstone SC is a member. The regatta takes place during a week in August (Monday-Friday) at Hayling Island SC (HISC). This regatta is one of the largest of its type in the UK and in 2006 there were over 450 competitors. Most mono-hulls are welcome to compete in the regatta either as part of a class race or part of the handicap fleet. Please note that there is a trophy for the Chichester Harbour Federation club with the best results.

In addition to having club members race in this event, we also support the event on and off the water. Langstone SC has a strong tradition of being responsible for producing the race results and providing our Safety and Support boats to be part of the "on the water" support team. Helpers of all levels are required to make this event a safe and fun event for competitors and helpers alike. If you would like to help, please speak to the Sailing Secretary.

Good luck to all Langstone members racing (and helping) at HISC in Fed week this year (Monday 9th to Friday 13th August 2010).
