Sailability Langstone Sailability is part of the RYA's initiative to enable people with all types of disabilities to enjoy sailing. They have 3 sailing boats on site, plus a motor launch. Two of the sailing boats are specially adapted Challenger trimarans, and the third is a Norfolk Oyster gaff-rigged dayboat - 'Joyce'. All members are encouraged to help Sailability by assisting with sailing 'Joyce', helping to rig trimarans etc. and during the annual Sailability event, taking visitors out in cruisers and dinghies and assisting ashore. 2003 saw the launch of another Sailability craft, the 'Hillary Farrow'. This is a landing-craft style boat with a drop front that allows wheelchairs to be taken directly on board from the shore and is proving to be useful and enjoyable, getting more people afloat for the first time. |
| The boat has had one or two problems which
will have to be solved to get her afloat in 2007, but is under review -
watch for news in the forum.
Joyce and the Challengers also take part in Club open events, including the regatta and Prentice Plate and the Challengers participate in club racing from time to time. |
